I’m working with an ambitious AI startup building a new generation of tools designed to change how people work. The team is taking on an exciting opportunity in one of the fastest-moving areas of technology, with big plans for the product and the business ahead.

The Role

As the business scales, security is becoming an increasingly important part of how the product is built. We’re looking for a Security Engineer with a strong software engineering background who wants to take ownership of application security and help shape the company’s security approach from the ground up.

You’ll work directly with the engineering team, building security into the product rather than treating it as a final checkpoint. There is plenty of scope to introduce new approaches, develop security tooling and influence engineering decisions as the product and user base grow.

You’ll be hands-on across:

• Designing and implementing security features to protect application functionality and user data.
• Conducting security assessments, code reviews, threat modelling and penetration testing, making use of AI-assisted tooling.
• Working alongside software engineers to introduce secure coding practices throughout the SDLC.
• Identifying, analysing and prioritising application vulnerabilities, working with developers to drive remediation.
• Investigating application security incidents and supporting incident response.
• Building security tooling and improving the overall security posture of the product.

What They’re Looking For

• Strong experience building and shipping production software, ideally with experience in security-sensitive areas such as authentication, data handling, API design or encryption.
• A clear interest in application security and the ability to approach software from an attacker’s perspective.
• Proficiency in TypeScript, Python or a similar programming language.
• Experience working with cloud environments, ideally AWS.
• Familiarity with secure coding practices and exposure to areas such as threat modelling, penetration testing, risk assessments or incident response.
• Someone who enjoys working closely with developers and can communicate security issues clearly.

A traditional application security background isn’t essential. The priority is a strong engineer who wants to take their security expertise further and play a significant role in securing a growing AI product.
