Senior AI Legal Engineer
Location: UK, Remote
We are working with a fast-growing legal technology business looking to hire a Senior AI Legal Engineer to help enterprise legal teams build AI-native legal functions.
This is not a traditional legal counsel role. It sits at the intersection of legal expertise, AI, legal operations, consulting, and product strategy. You will work directly with senior legal stakeholders, including Heads of Legal, General Counsel, procurement teams, and legal operations leaders, to advise on operating models, redesign business processes, and embed AI into legal workflows.
The successful candidate will have a strong legal foundation, ideally with solid post-qualification experience, and the ability to operate credibly with enterprise customers. You will understand how commercial contracts are drafted, negotiated, reviewed, and managed, and be able to translate customer challenges into scalable AI-enabled solutions.
Key responsibilities
- Advise enterprise legal teams on how to build AI-native legal functions.
- Support customers with legal operating model design, process improvement, and workflow optimisation.
- Identify bottlenecks across contract review, negotiation, approval, and knowledge management processes.
- Translate legal and commercial pain points into scalable product solutions and implementation strategies.
- Work closely with customers to challenge existing ways of working and advise on best practice.
- Partner with product and implementation teams to ensure solutions are practical, commercially relevant, and legally robust.
- Engage confidently with senior stakeholders, including GCs, Heads of Legal, procurement, and commercial teams.
Key requirements
- Qualified lawyer status is essential.
- Strong post-qualification experience gained in-house, in private practice, or in a legal technology / legal transformation environment.
- Strong legal drafting and negotiation experience, with a deep understanding of commercial contracting and risk allocation.
- Experience across legal operations, process design, CLM, contracting workflows, or legal transformation.
- Strong understanding of how AI can be applied across legal review, contract negotiation, playbooks, knowledge management, and legal service delivery.
- Consulting capability, with the confidence to engage customers, challenge current processes, and recommend practical improvements.
- Strong stakeholder management and executive presence.
- Commercial awareness, with the ability to balance legal risk, speed, efficiency, and business objectives.
This is an excellent opportunity for a legally trained professional who wants to move beyond traditional legal advisory work and help shape how enterprise legal teams use AI in practice.
